Help and common questions

How to open and play a presentation

  1. Choose your presentation

Tap “Choose presentation” or drag the file onto the page. PPTX and PPSX files both work.

  2. Look through the slides

Every slide shows with its pictures, charts and speaker notes. Pick a slide from the list on the side to jump to it.

  3. Play the slideshow

Press Play and the presentation fills the screen, with its own transitions and animations. Click, tap or press the arrow keys to move on.

Questions

How do I open a PPTX file without PowerPoint?

Choose the file on this page and it opens right here in your web browser. You don't need PowerPoint or any other program, and you don't need an account.

Will the transitions and animations play?

Yes. When you play the slideshow, the slides change with the transitions that were chosen in PowerPoint, such as fade, push and wipe, and animated text and pictures appear in order as you click, just as they would in PowerPoint.

How do I go to the next slide in the slideshow?

Click, tap the screen, or press the Space bar or the right arrow key. The left arrow goes back. On a phone or tablet you can also swipe. Press Esc to stop the slideshow.

Can I see the speaker notes?

Yes. Press “Notes” at the top and the speaker notes for each slide show underneath it, so you can read what the presenter planned to say. Press it again to hide them.

Can I play a presentation on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Open the file, press Play and turn your phone sideways for the biggest slides. Tap or swipe to move between slides.

Can I copy text from a slide?

Yes. Select the text on a slide with your mouse, or press and hold on a phone, and copy it like any other text.

Will it open a presentation that has a password?

Yes. If the file is locked with a password you'll be asked to type it in, and then it opens as usual. Without the right password it can't be opened — that is what the password is for.

Can I open an old .ppt file?

Yes, you can read all of its text here. To see the slides themselves with their pictures and layout, save it as .pptx first: in PowerPoint choose File, then Save As, and pick “PowerPoint Presentation (.pptx)”. Files from Google Slides and Keynote can be downloaded as .pptx too.
