Questions
Is it really free, with no sign-up?
Yes, completely. There's no sign-up, no login and no daily limit: just open the page and start. It works in your browser on any computer, phone or tablet with nothing to install, and your notes are saved on your own device, never uploaded.
Do spaces count as characters?
Yes — spaces are characters, so both counts are shown: "with spaces" counts every letter, number, symbol and space; "without spaces" leaves the spaces out. Line breaks aren't counted in either, the same as in Word.
How do I count the words in a PDF or Word document?
Press "Open a file" and choose it. The text appears in the box and is counted. Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, so they have no text to count.
How is the reading time worked out?
From an average silent reading speed of 238 words a minute; speaking time uses 150 words a minute, a comfortable pace for a speech or presentation.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. It's counted in your browser and never leaves your device.
