Questions
Is it really free, with no sign-up?
Yes, completely. There's no sign-up, no login and no daily limit: just open the page and start. It works in your browser on any computer, phone or tablet with nothing to install, and your files are never uploaded — everything happens on your device.
Can I open a document from Microsoft Word, edit it and send it back?
Yes. Open the .docx, make your changes and download it — it's still a normal Word document that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages, with its styles, tables, pictures, headers, footers and comments.
Does it have track changes and comments?
Yes. Turn on Review → Track Changes (or pick “Reviewing” at the top right) and every edit is marked, then accept or reject changes one by one or all at once. Select text and click New Comment to leave a note; replies and resolved comments are kept in the file.
Will I lose my work if I close the tab?
No. While you edit, the document is saved on this device automatically, and it's listed under “Recent on this device” when you come back. Download it whenever you want a copy to keep or send.
How do I make a table of contents?
Give your headings the Heading 1, Heading 2 or Heading 3 style (Home → Styles, or References → Add Text), then click References → Table of Contents. Click Update Table after you change your headings.
How do I change the margins, page size or orientation?
Open the Layout tab: Margins, Orientation and Size have the usual choices, and the small arrow in the corner of the Page Setup group opens every option. Columns, breaks and line numbers are there too.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Click File → Export → PDF, then choose “Save as PDF” as the printer in the window that opens. The pages come out exactly as you see them.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and documents are only kept on this device. Nothing you write is sent to a server.
Can I open .doc, .odt, .rtf or .txt files?
Yes. .docx (and .docm, .dotx and Word XML) open exactly as they are, .rtf and .odt open with their formatting, plain .txt files open exactly as written, and older .doc files open as their text. Whatever you open, Download saves it as a modern .docx.
